The Future of Scottish Local Newspapers: MSPs Karen Whitefield and Kenneth Gibson Share Their Thoughts

These last couple of weeks, the education and culture committee at the Scottish Parliament has been taking evidence from some of the great and the good of the Scottish media scene on the subject: what future for Scottish local newspapers? And on Thursday, there is a debate about newspapers in the Parliament's main chamber.

It could hardly be more timely. The Scottish Government is proposing that local authorities save money by transferring their public notices from local newspapers to the internet.

But any millions of pounds saved could be the ruin of some titles.
