Newspapers: What the Parties Say

A summary of the newspaper-related manifesto commitments of each of the main UK political parties has revealed a widespread desire to reform the libel law.

In the run-up to the General Election and ahead of a televised debate this evening – featuring Labour leader, Gordon Brown, and his Tory and LibDem counterparts – the Newspaper Society has produced a handy round-up of the manifesto commitments applying to the likes of VAT and copyright, as well as libel.

In its manifesto, Labour re-iterates its backing of three, publicly-fiunded TV news pilots on channel 3 in Wales, Tyne Tees/Border and Scotland.
