Circulation Cheer for Scottish Quartet

Four national newspapers saw their year-on-year sales in Scotland increase between April last year and last month. 

Says the Audit Bureau of Circulation, the Sunday Herald, the Scottish News of the World, the Independent on Sunday and the Daily Star of Scotland – Sunday each enjoyed year-on-year sales hikes over the 12 months, the first two continuing with upward year-on-year trends lasting these last couple of months.

The figures read, across the board, as follows:

Scottish Daily Mirror (26,094 in April 2010 versus 27,655 in April 2009, down 1561 or 5.6 per cent), Daily Record (304,206 versus 326,034, down 21,833 or 6.7 per cent), Daily Star of Scotland (85,064 versus 86,094, down 1030 or 1.2 per cent), Scottish Sun (344,753 versus 363,296, down 18,542 or 5.1 per cent), and Scottish Daily Express (66,367 versus 71,563, down 5196 or 7.2 per cent).

Scottish Daily Mail (114,585 versus 119,004, down 4419 or 3.7 per cent), Daily Telegraph (21,492 versus 23,739, down 2247 or 9.5 per cent), Financial Times (4039 versus 4812, down 773 or 16.1 per cent), The Herald (54,704 versus 58,482, down 3778 or 6.6 per cent), The Guardian (14,592 versus 15,912, down 1320 or 8.3 per cent), and The Independent (7893 versus 9186, down 1293 or 14.1 per cent).

The Scotsman (43,962 versus 47,035, down 3073 or 6.5 per cent), The Times (23,569 versus 27,349, down 3780 or 13.8 per cent), Daily Star of Scotland – Sunday (27,964 versus 27,026, up 938 or 3.5 per cent), Scottish News of the World (269,672 versus 261,392, up 8280 or 3.2 per cent), and Sunday Mail (369,264 versus 404,229, down 34,965 or 8.6 per cent).

Scottish Sunday Mirror (22,521 versus 24,274, down 1753 or 7.2 per cent), The People (13,337 versus 17,415, down 4078 or 23.4 per cent), Scottish Sunday Express (37,070 versus 41,663, down 4593 or 11 per cent), Sunday Post (232,248 versus 246,534, down 32,286 or 13.1 per cent), and Scottish Mail on Sunday (96,785 versus 103,903, down 7118 or 6.9 per cent).

Independent on Sunday (6925 versus 6878, up 47 or 0.7 per cent), The Observer (18,982 versus 21,418, down 2436 or 11.4 per cent), Scotland on Sunday (54,924 versus 57,237, down 2313 or four per cent) and Sunday Herald (42,204 versus 40,124, up 2080 or 5.2 per cent).

Sunday Telegraph (18,225 versus 19,592, down 1367 or seven per cent) and Sunday Times Scotland (65,600 versus 69,711, down 4111 or 5.9 per cent).
