Circulation Gap Widens Slightly Between Top-selling Dailies

The circulation gap between the two, best-selling daily newspapers in Scotland has widened slightly, following four successive months of narrowing.

Say the June ABCs, the gap – as measured by Average Net Circulation – between sales in Scotland of the Sun and the Daily Record was 41,360. In May, it was 39,183; in April, it was 40,547; and in March, it was 43,414.

In June, The Scottish Sun’s average daily sale in Scotland was 335,782 (compared to 339,983 in May), as opposed to the Record’s 294,422 (compared to 300,800 in May).

Meanwhile, the average sale in Scotland for the country’s biggest-selling newspaper, the Sunday Mail, was 354,758. In May, it was 358,108; in April, it was 369,624; and in March, it was 372,229.

The Sunday Times Scotland average sale in Scotland during June was down 3066 on the previous month of 64,806. Halfway through last month, the edition became much more of a skeleton operation, with only a handful of editorial staff retained following a reorganisation.

Average Net Circulation figures include free give-aways. The figures were released at midday.
