Just two weeks after publication, a book by a senior production journalist on The Herald has already sold out on Amazon and picked up a clutch of favourable reviews.
James Morgan's 250-page book on legendary, enigmatic footballer, Alan Gilzean, has already enjoyed coverage in the press.
Gilzean came to prominence with Dundee and went on to star with Tottenham Hotspur – winning four cup medals (FA Cup – 1967, League Cup – 1971 and 1973 and UEFA Cup – 1972) with the London side, and gaining numerous caps for Scotland.
Northern Ireland-born Morgan – who began his career on the Irish News in Belfast – joined The Herald six years ago from the Daily Mirror, in London.
It was in London that he first became intrigued by Gilzean, whose life has been a mystery after retiring from top-flight football in 1974, and, in 1985, after suddenly quitting his job with a haulage firm in Enfield after an apparent disagreement with management.
Extracts from the book – ‘In Search of Alan Gilzean’ – were carried in The Herald and Sunday Herald at the weekend, and Morgan has written a 1500-word piece which will appear in the Scottish Daily Mail on Saturday.
