Iconic Column Criticism by Keith

Scottish Daily Express writer, Keith Aitken, is somewhat cheesed off with the use of the word ‘iconic’, and its use by BBC Scotland.

In his column yesterday, Aitken comments: “You could tell how special Sir Norman Wisdom was, because the wee fellow was barely cold before BBC Scotland had labelled him ‘iconic’ – a word it reserves only for things that are big, small, picturesque, conspicuous, famous, infamous, commonplace, notorious, popular, old, new, dead, trendy, ungainly, elusive, cliched, rare, ubiquitous, current, obsolete, retro, familiar, expensive, pleasing , divisive, comforting, scary…”
