Rafferty tribute makes newspaper hot property

A NEWSPAPER which carried a tribute to the musician, Gerry Rafferty, who died earlier this month, has been sold on the online auction site, eBay, for almost £14.

The Paisley Daily Express – which normally retails at 42p – produced a special edition dedicated to Rafferty, one of the town’s most famous sons, and it was to sell for £13.63.

The paper – whose publishers have just announced plans to axe the editorship post – reports the winning bid secured the special edition with just eight seconds remaining.

The paper quotes the editor, Anne Dalrymple, who is now facing redundancy, saying: “The interest has been quite incredible and it is a tribute to everyone here at the Paisley Daily Express who worked on the edition that so many people wanted to get their hands on a copy.

“It is amazing that someone was happy to scoop a copy for almost £14 – it is the most expensive edition ever sold.”
