Sheridan gets three years

AS breaking news all over the place – on the BBC and on STV, among others – former MSP, Tommy Sheridan, has been jailed for three years, after being found guilty of lying under oath during a successful defamation case he mounted against the News of the World five years ago.

After being found, just before Christmas, guilty of perjury, he was in court today to hear his sentence. And following a judgment yesterday, by the Scottidsh Judiciary, journalists were able to tweet from the courtroom, as the drama was unfolding – including BBC Scotland’s Raymond Buchanan and STV’s news team.

Sheridan – a former leader of the Scottish Socialist Party – had sued the News of the World following allegations about his private life.
