THE Edinburgh-based news and picture agency, Deadline News, has promoted its chief reporter to the post of managing editor, to succeed Shaun Milne, who is leaving for STV.
Peter Laing takes over from Milne has been with Deadline for two years and has been appointed regional editor for Edinburgh at STV Local – a recently-launched network of local websites.
Deadline recently celebrated its tenth birthday. Laing has worked in the Scottish media since 1992, when he joined the Evening News in Edinburgh. He worked for the Daily Record and Scotland on Sunday, where he was news editor for eight years.
In a statement issued by Deadline, Laing is quoted, saying: “I’m delighted to be taking Deadline into its second decade. I look forward to building on our reputation for top-quality journalism while addressing the changing needs of the industry.
“Our talented young team are as comfortable operating a video camera and posting to our website as they are wielding pens and still cameras.
“Much of the credit for these developments belongs to Shaun – he has worked tirelessly over the past two years to consolidate Deadline’s reputation for incisive journalism while developing our video coverage and launching a superb new website.”
The statement also quotes Milne, saying: “I’m really looking forward to starting my next role in what promises to be an exciting new adventure but at the same time I’m very sad to be leaving the Deadline News team.
“They are among the very best multimedia journalists and photographers in Scotland. They have also become good friends and I hope for nothing but the best for them.
“Peter is a class act and the agency will, I’m sure, go from strength to strength under him.”
