A pair of newspaper titles have seen their sales in Scotland drop by over 20 per cent since this time last year, with a further four enduring a drop in excess of ten per cent.
Says the Audit Bureau of Circulation, joining the Sunday Herald – as already reported, here – in suffering a year-on-year sales fall by over 20 per cent between March last year and last month is the Daily Star of Scotland. While the Sunday Herald's fall is 27.5 per cent, the Star's is 21 per cent.
And just behind them is the Daily Star of Scotland – Sunday (16.2 per cent), the Financial Times (14.2 per cent), The Times (11.5 per cent) and the Sunday Times Scotland (10.2 per cent).
Across all the titles, the sales figures read:
Scottish Daily Mirror (23,461 in March 2011 versus 25,946 in March 2010, down 2485 or 9.6 per cent), Daily Record (288,717 versus 308,846, down 20,129 or 6.5 per cent), Daily Star of Scotland (68,397 versus 86.275, down 17,878 or 21 per cent), Scottish Sun (329,795 versus 352.260, down 22,565 or 6.4 per cent), and Scottish Daily Express (66,516 versus 66,836, down 320 or 0.5 per cent).
Scottish Daily Mail (109,945 versus 112,871, down 2926 or 2.6 per cent), Daily Telegraph (19,892 versus 20,871, down 979 or 4.7 per cent), Financial Times (3625 versus 4227, down 602 or 14.2 per cent), The Herald (50,444 versus 55,387, down 4943 or 8.9 per cent), The Guardian (13,287 versus 14,085, down 798 or 5.7 per cent), and The Independent (7772 versus 7348, up 434 or 5.9 per cent).
The Scotsman (40,864 versus 44,449, down 3585 or 8.1 per cent), The Times (20,790 versus 23,481, down 2691 or 11.5 per cent), Daily Star of Scotland – Sunday (23,443 versus 27,967, down 4524 or 16.2 per cent), Scottish News of the World (244,789 versus 271,074, down 26,285 or 9.7 per cent), and Sunday Mail (339,871 versus 372,229, down 32,358 or 8.7 per cent).
Scottish Sunday Mirror (21,797 versus 23,007, down 1210 or 5.3 per cent), The People (13,228 versus 13,605, down 337 or 2.8 per cent), Scottish Sunday Express (34,317 versus 36,617 down 2300 or 6.3 per cent), Sunday Post (219,459 versus 233,934, down 14,475 or 6.2 per cent), and Scottish Mail on Sunday (93,453 versus 97,471, down 4018 or 4.1 per cent).
Independent on Sunday (6616 versus 6103, up 513 or 8.4 per cent), The Observer (17,335 versus 18,731, down 1396 or 7.5 per cent), Scotland on Sunday (54,020 versus 55,717, down 1697 or three per cent) and Sunday Herald (30,999 versus 42,786, down 11,787 or 27.5 per cent).
