Scotsman Reporter Set Hebridean Challenge for Charity

A Scotsman reporter has challenged himself to set foot on as many Hebridean islands as possible within two weeks to raise money for charity.

Brian Ferguson, who has written for The Scotsman for nearly four years, will spend a fortnight hitch-hiking among Scotland’s islands with another supporter of the charity, the Royal National Lifeboat Institution, Jim Campbell.

The fundraisers also hope to promote Scotland’s west coast and plan to blog their experiences during the challenge on social media sites.

Before The Scotsman, Ferguson was council reporter for sister title, the Edinburgh Evening News.

Says Ferguson: “Although Jim and I are both regular visitors to the Hebrides, this is a real step into the unknown for both of us, as we have no idea where we’ll end up or when, and we’re particularly excited about setting foot on islands that we’ve never been to before.

“We hope to inspire people who have never visited the islands to give them a try and discover the amazing scenery and fascinating history round almost every corner.”
