Law Magazine Relaunches, Leaner and Fitter

A new-look magazine of the Law Society of Scotland is being published today, with its designers describing it as 'leaner and fitter'.

A new structure, new content, new design and completely new typefaces accompany the conversion of The Journal from 68 pages perfect bound to 48 pages saddlestitched. Says its producers/designers Connect Communications, the new look will bring considerable production savings to the Society, for whom Connect produce the magazine each month.

Says editor, Peter Nicholson: “Solicitors will not lose out from the reduced page extent of their magazine, as The Journal now ties in much more closely with its website www.journalonline.co.uk, providing links to a new slate of 'online exclusive' articles as well as extended versions of magazine features.

“A cover feature interview, also in video online, with Burness chairman Philip Rodney – on growing a business in the face of a flat legal services market – sets the positive tone for the new-look magazine, which also carries a special feature on opportunities for legal work in the rapidly expanding renewables sector.”

Adds Henry Robson, deputy chief executive at the Law Society of Scotland: “From today, readers of The Journal will notice many changes in the exciting redesign.

“The Journal of the Law Society of Scotland has gone from strength to strength in recent years. A recent survey of solicitors showed that it is well respected, well read and that the profession rate it highly as a source of information and news.

“The redesign will allow the magazine to develop, making more use of Journal Online by having closer tie-ups with the features in the magazine. It will introduce many new and exciting features aimed at the changing pace of work- life of the profession and the way people like to receive news and information.”

The Journal achieved over 90 per cent positive ratings in a readers’ survey carried out over the summer, and Nicholson is the current PPA Scotland Business and Professional Editor of the Year.
