Edinburgh Freesheet to Close

The Scotsman Publications' free newspaper for Edinburgh is to close.

No date has yet been set for the closure of the Edinburgh Herald & Post, but it is already known that editor, Helen Martin, is being redeployed within sister title, the Edinburgh Evening News.

However, it is yet not known, what, if any impact, the proposed closure will have on advertising and distribution staff.

Early last year, the paper was relaunched with a much greater emphasis on consumer news and shopping and was arguably all the better for it.

But there seems to have been a recent spate of freesheet closures, including six Scots titles owned by Trinity Mirror, whose demise was announced in August.

Meanwhile, it is understood there are no plans to close the West Lothian Herald & Post, which is operated by a separate division of The Scotsman publishers, Johnston Press: Johnston Falkirk.
