NUJ Life Membership for former Daily Record FoC

A FORMER NUJ ‘Father of Chapel’ at the Daily Record who went on to become editor of the Wee County News newspaper in Clackmannanshire, is to be honoured with life membership of the union.

David Bytheway is to receive his award from the Forth Valley branch of the NUJ at a social night at the beginning of next month.

Says the branch: “David was an active branch official while working as editor of the Johnston Press-owned Cumbernauld News. He moved to the Daily Record, maintaining his union activities and serving as FoC and in other roles.

“When he became editor of the about-to-be-established Wee County News he was instrumental in establishing the NUJ chapel there.

“He was also involved in setting up some of the highly-successful training courses which the NUJ in Scotland runs.”

The award ceremony is taking place at The Wheatsheaf Inn, Baxter’s Wynd, Falkirk, on Thursday, December 1, at 7.30pm.
