Littlejohn joins chorus of disapproval over manner of journalists’ arrests

CONCERNS that the police have used heavy-handed tactics to arrest journalists working at The Sun newspaper have been raised by the Daily Mail columnist, Richard Littlejohn, echoing similar sentiments made yesterday by The Sun’s associate editor, Trevor Kavanagh.

Writes Littlejohn: “Scotland Yard is conducting a heavy-handed campaign of intimidation, sanctioned by senior officers and cheered on by vindictive politicians.”

Yesterday, Kavanagh wrote of five Sun journalists being arrested at the weekend, on suspicion of making illegal payments to police officers and other officials, as being treated “like members of an organised crime gang”.

Adds Littlejohn: “Given the unprecedented scale of the operation and the money being spent, one might have expected questions in the House [of Commons]. But there hasn’t been a peep.”
