Criticism of McAlpine Newspaper Column Yet to Subside

Criticism of a column in the Daily Record on Tuesday by MSP, Joan McAlpine, has yet to subside.

It follows the return to the Record of the SNP MSP who used to work at the paper and includes the deputy editorship of The Herald in her CV.

And McAlpine's first column since her return, on Tuesday, has been causing ructions ever since, after writing that the “Union between Scotland and England is a bit like the marriage of a talented, well-educated girl with good prospects and her own income, to a domineering man”.

Today, The Herald and the Scottish Daily Express both report mention of the column during First Minister's Questions at the Scottish Parliament yesterday: as part of the opening exchanges involving Scottish Labour leader, Johann Lamont.
