Paisley publishers purchase bowling magazine

A QUARERKY magazine that is sent for free to almost 8,000 bowling clubs throughout the UK has been sold to a Paisley-based publisher.

Connect Publications (Scotland) Limited has added Nationwide Bowler, and its website, www.nationwidebowler.co.uk, to its growing stable of titles, which includes Scottish Dental.

Connect Publications is a subsidiary of contract publisher, Connect Communications, which produces, for instance, The Journal on behalf of the Law Society of Scotland. It has acquired Nationwide Bowler and its website from PSP Publishing Limited, the Glasgow-based publishers of, among other titles, bunkered golf magazine, and No.1, the Scots celebrity and fashion title.

Nationwide Bowler has a print run of more than 15,000.

Connect – which has offices in Paisley and Edinburgh, together employing 33 staff – will publish the next issue of Nationwide Bowler in June.

In a statement issued by the company, director, Alan Ramsay, is quoted, as saying: “This is an exciting opportunity for Connect as we continue to increase the number of titles we own. We launched the first of our titles in 2010 with Scottish Dental, Ireland’s Dental and Scottish Primary Care for the health sector.

“This year, we are doing extending the breadth and reach of our magazine business, not only with Nationwide Bowler, but with the launch of the inaugural Scottish Dental Show at Hampden Park May 24 and 25, which has already sold out thanks to the support of more than 100 trade exhibitors and the line-up of 30 industry experts as speakers.

“Nationwide Bowler is a top quality, profitable magazine and we look forward to developing the title in print and digital formats. The website will relaunch completely in September.”

The statement quotes PSP Publishing’s Paul Grant, as saying: “We have refocused our business, and looked for a suitable publisher to take over the care of one of our most successful titles. We wish Connect every success in the future with the magazine and website.”
