Police investigation into complaint against Scots journalist still ongoing

A POLICE investigation into a complaint by a Channel 4 News reporter, against a Scots journalist, is still ongoing – contrary to reports.

A newspaper report yesterday contended that Strathclyde Police had dropped an investigation into a complaint by Alex Thomson, chief correspondent at Channel 4 News.

But Strathclyde Police has refuted it.

Thomson complained he had been threatened by an unnamed Scots journalist while reporting the placing into administration of Rangers FC, in February, at the same time criticising local media coverage of the story.

In one blog, he wrote about a threat of physical assault. In another, he claimed: “For years, too much football ‘journalism’ in Glasgow had been too lazy, sycophantic and incapable of asking awkward questions.”

Thomson revealed he had made the complaint during an interview on Radio Clyde.
