NEWS yesterday that former First Minister, Jack McConnell, might have had his phoned hacked by the News of the World, commands extensive coverage in today’s Press, including the front pages of The Herald and the Daily Record.
It follows an exclusive yesterday in the Record’s sister paper, the Sunday Mail, where political editor, Mark Aitken, begins: “Jack McConnell is another victim of the News of the World phone hackers, we can reveal.”
Today, The Herald quotes McConnell, as saying: “This is a difficult situation. I don’t want to discuss details but I can confirm we have spoken to the police and are taking legal action.”
The News of the World was closed in July, amid allegations of phone hacking. Added yesterday’s Sunday Mail, lawyers for McConnell are “now scouring stories” in the Scottish edition of the News of the World, including how it found out about former TV presenter, John Leslie, allegedly trying to make contact with McConnell’s daughter, to go on a night out.
