Concert Looming for 'Sunday Herald Band'

Not long to go before the music festival, T in the Park, taking place near Kinross between the 6th and 8th of next month.

And a scratch band formed from staff members at The Herald group of newspapers is going through its final preparations ahead of making an appearance at the festival – despite none of them having ever played together, most of them having never played a musical instrument before, when the band was formed four months ago.

An update on the band's progress appears in today's edition of the Sunday Herald.

Catriona Stewart, keyboards, is quoted as saying: “My main concern is stage fright. During fourth year of school, I took part in Lanarkshire's Young Musician of the Year competition on the clarinet. On a stage, in front of the mums and grans and aunties, I froze. I could not play a note.”

Stewart Attwood, drummer: “Rehearsals have been intense but there have been plenty of laughs, which have helped us along the way.”

Stewart Paterson, guitarist: “Two weeks ago, while the band was rehearsing Daydream Believer in Glasgow Music Studios for the first time, I hardly hit a chord in time and often lost the place altogether.”

Ken McNab, singer: “I'm not sure about one piece of advice – down a glass of port before every performance – but I'll give [it] the benefit of the doubt.”

Rachel Loxton, bass player: “Last week, somewhere between a few pints of Tennents and two G&Ts, it was confirmed: we had become a real-life band.”
