Hickey hails McLellan appointment

THEĀ appointment of former Scotsman editor, John McLellan, as the new director of communications for the Scottish Tories is greeted enthusiastically by the Scottish Daily Express diarist, Hickey.

Today’s column – which goes by the strapline, In Gossipus Veritas, and is usually pretty fantastical – starts by saying that, in ‘his day’, the job was “hardly taxing”, ending around 3.30pm, “which may be why they soon dispensed with my services”.

Hickey continues: “I am told that the cheery Mc McL is a v hard taskmaster, however, just what the rabble need: backbone, grit and bared teeth.”
