Daily Record reporters banned from press conference

REPORTERS from the Daily Record were yesterday banned from a press conference being presented by the manager of the Scotland men’s football team, Craig Levein, understood to be because of a headline in that day’s edition of the paper.

Today’s back page comprises a large heading – SHUT OUT – above a photograph, via a spy hole, of the conference taking place on the other side of a door.

The ‘offending’ headline concerned a widely reported seeming switch in selection policy.

It comprised: ‘Last week – Levein: It is very difficult for anyone playing in the Third Division to be up to the speed of an international; This week – We won’t snub ‘Gers’.

The paper says it was reporters Keith Jackson and Craig Swan who were denied access to the conference ahead of a friendly match this evening between Scotland and Australia.

Writes the Record’s James Traynor, Levein had no problem with either the writers or the story, just the headline.
