Censorship the subject of movie debate

A DEBATE on censorship is taking place this evening at the Edinburgh Filmhouse cinema, following the screening of a movie.

Says the Filmhouse about ‘This is not a Film': “Does censorship work? You have to wonder when you consider that Jafar Panahi’s extraordinary satire, rated as the number one film of 2011 by Rotten Tomatoes, has hardly been seen in the UK… and that he is still under house arrest, perhaps as a result.”

The film is part of a festival, Take One Action, which describes itself as the “UK’s leading global citizenship film festival, led by film lovers, artists and globally-concerned citizens based in Scotland who believe that cinematic experiences can inspire lasting change”.

The film screening is followed followed by discussion with special guest speakers including Yassamine Mather (Hands Off The People of Iran) and special guest speakers about Iran, censorship and the campaign to free Jafar Panahi.

The event is supported by the National Union of Journalists.
