Nutt writes of recording the very moment of giving birth

A FREELANCE journalist has written of giving birth and this time making sure the event is recorded from the very moment of birth.

Writes Kathleen Nutt in today’s Herald Woman section of The Herald newspaper, it was a regret of both herself and her photographer husband, Colin Mearns, that they didn’t have a photograph of the actual birth of their oldest child. They have a photograph, taken a minute later, of Genevieve being held by the midwife.

Nutt – who has been freelancing for the last three years, following a spell as a reporter and political correspondent at The Sunday Times Scotland – gave birth to Freya and Alexander nine months ago.

Mearns is a photographer on The Herald. Nutt’s CV includes crime reporter on the Edinburgh Evening News and deputy news editor on the Greenock Telegraph.
