Russell leaving The Herald as editor-in-chief

THE editor-in-chief of The Herald is leaving.

Jonathan Russell had been absent for the last few weeks and while some of that had been holiday leave, it was being increasingly speculated that he was in dispute with the managing director of The Herald & Times Group, Tim Blott.

The Herald declined to comment further on a statement issued to staff which reads: “Herald & Times Group editor-in-chief, Jonathan Russell, has decided to leave the company at the end of this month. Managing director, Tim Blott, thanked him for his service.”

The Herald & Times Group comprises The Herald, Sunday Herald and Evening Times newspapers.

Russell was appointed two-and-a-half years ago, succeeding Donald Martin who had gone to take up the editorship of The Sunday Post.
