Spiers writes of his own threats experiences while reporting Rangers

THE leading Scots football journalist, Graham Spiers, has written of his experiences of being threatened while reporting Rangers Football Club.

His piece – published on Tuesday – follows a Channel 4 News item on Friday which quotes the NUJ saying an estimated 32 journalists had been threatened following their reporting of the club which is now playing in the Scottish Football League Third Division following financial problems.

Spiers says he first began receiving threats ten years ago and while the intensity has fluctuated over the years, it has included being advised by the counter-terrorism unit at Strathclyde Police.
