Leith Agency chief reportedly suspended over tweets

A SERIES of tweets has reportedly resulted in the suspension of one of Scotland’s best-known advertising creatives.

Reports The Scotsman today andĀ The Drum last night, Gerry Farrell has been suspended by Leith Agency following a series of tweets against the deputy leader of The City of Edinburgh Council, Steve Cardownie.

Yesterday, the Edinburgh Evening News reported the tweets and Cardownie’s reaction across its pages one, four and five. Editor, Frank O’Donnell, thenĀ tweeted the suspension yesterday afternoon.

Farrell is described by the paper as ‘Scotland’s top ad man’.

The Scotsman begins its reporting by describing creative director, Farrell, as an ‘advertising guru’, insodoing carrying a photograph of him on its front page and the full story on page three.

It is all over a marketing campaign proposed for Edinburgh by Leith Agency, which Cardownie is said to be less than impressed with: ‘incredinburgh’.

Cardownie’s alleged views were first reported last month, in the Sunday Herald.

Leith Agency is behind several very well-known ad campaigns, including for the soft drink, IRN-BRU.

The Scotsman says the suspension is temporary, with plans for a meeting next week.
