PR consultants are to be urged to “get a grip” on using data, at an upcoming awards ceremony in Scotland.
Stewart Argo – media manager at the City of Edinburgh Council – is among the speakers at the DARE Scotland awards, being run by the Public Relations Consultants Association.
The Scotland event – on June 21 and which is still accepting entries – is one of five DARE awards ceremonies taking place around the UK, and Argo is to be joined, as a speaker, by Stephen Waddington, European digital and social media director at PR agency, Ketchum.
The deadline for entries to the Scotland DARE competition is the 26th of this month, here.
In a media release issued by the PRCA, Argo is quoted, as saying: “PR people are rightly known for their gifts with language and some are even proud of their disdain for maths and all things numerical.
“But being able to use data well is increasingly important. At a basic level, we should be able to understand stats and fairly represent these in our work. But we also need to get a grip of what numbers can do to influence our strategies and help us tell stories where words alone won’t do. So, what I’ll be talking about is why I think it’s crucial we are as comfortable with data as we are with text, and give some examples of how we’re putting stats to work at the Council.”
