McPherson named new comms head of Edinburgh City Council

THE head of communications at the Association of British Insurers has been named the new chief communications officer at The City of Edinburgh Council.

Lesley McPherson succeeds former Edinburgh Evening News editor, Tom Little, who is now at South Lanarkshire, as head of corporate communications and public affairs and whose role at Edinburgh was slightly different (head of policy and public affairs) to that McPherson will be performing.

Says a Edinburgh Council media release: “Lesley’s career has included over 12 years with AEGON UK, as head of media relations and then as communications director. She has previous experience of working in local government having begun her career at Glasgow City Council.”

Alastair Maclean, director of corporate governance at the City of Edinburgh Council, is quoted, as saying: “Lesley has extensive experience of working in communications and her successes at AEGON UK and at the ABI speak for themselves. I’m delighted to be welcoming Lesley on board and look forward to working with her in developing the council’s communications with local residents and key stakeholders.”

McPherson is quoted, as saying: “Edinburgh is a fantastic place to live and work and the council plays a pivotal role in delivering that success. It’s an exciting time to be joining the team. This is a great opportunity for me to contribute to the work of the council in building on the positive things that are happening in the city and in supporting new developments. I am looking forward to this new challenge.”

She will join on the 29th of next month.
