Russell named as Media Scotland’s publishing director of local titles

THE former editor of The Herald, Jonathan Russell, has been named the publishing director of the local newspaper titles produced by Daily Record publisher, Media Scotland.

Russell – whose departure from The Herald was announced in October – is succeeding group editor, Alan Woodison, who is retiring after 34 years.

His responsibilities will include all Media Scotland’s local newspapers, plus the Paisley Daily Express and the free newspapers recently launched: Aberdeen Now, Edinburgh Now and Glasgow Now.

He was consultant in the launch of Edinburgh Now and Glasgow Now. He begins his new post at the weekend.

He is a former editor the Paisley Daily Express. He is also a former assistant editor at the Daily Record.
