THE Scotsman newspaper sold an average 29,452 copies per day between July and December last year – according to official figures published yesterday.
Says the Audit Bureau of Circulation, in its twice-yearly review of ‘regional newspapers’, The Scotsman’s average sale was down six per cent on the average sale between January and June last year. There is no figure for a year-on-year comparison, nor for sister title, Scotland on Sunday, most likely because of a relatively recent re-classification of those newspapers, from national to regional.
But there is a year-on-year figure for The Herald, whose average 38,939 sale between July and December last year was 9.8 per cent down on 12 months previously, July-December 2012.
Among the figures issued, the following Scots titles:
* Aberdeen Evening Express – an average 35,881 between July and December last year, down 11.9 per cent on 12 months’ previously, July-December 2012;
* Press and Journal – an average 63,796 between July and December last year, down 4.3 per cent on 12 months’ previously, July-December 2012;
* The Courier – 50,539, down 5.1 per cent on 12 months’ previously;
* Evening Telegraph – 20,421, down 4.8 per cent on 12 months’ previously;
* Edinburgh Evening News – 27,655, down 14 per cent on 12 months’ previously;
* Evening Times – 35,773, down 15.7 per cent on 12 months’ previously;
* The Herald – 38,939, down 9.8 per cent on 12 months’ previously;
* Paisley Daily Express – 6,767, down 6.4 per cent on 12 months’ previously;
* The Scotsman – 29,452, down n/a per cent on 12 months’ previously (but the July-Dec 2013 figure was down six per cent on the Jan-Jun 2013 one);
* Aberdeen Citizen (free) – 52,925, down 0.1 per cent on 12 months’ previously;
* Inverness Scene (free) – 17,972, up 19.9 per cent on 12 months’ previously;
* Northern Scot Mid Week Extra – 18,954, down 12.4 per cent on 12 months’ previously;
* Scotland on Sunday – 32,616, down n/a per cent on 12 months’ previously (but the July-Dec 2013 figure was down 12.3 per cent on the Jan-Jun 2013 one);
* Sunday Herald – 23,907, down 7.5 per cent on 12 months’ previously; and
* West Highland Free Press – 7,534, down 2.8 per cent on 12 months’ previously.
