Your Noon Briefing: Sunday Herald bucks sales trend, STV financial results, etc

THE Sunday Herald has seen its sales numbers increase, including year-on-year, according to latest official figures.

Says circulations auditing body, ABC, the title’s average circulation increased by 34.7 per cent period during the period July to December last year, compared to the same period the previous year, to stand at 32,021.

Its ‘period-on-period’ (from the average up to six months previously) figure was also up: 28.2 per cent.

It follows the publication, yesterday, of the ABC’s six-monthly report about regional newspapers (as opposed to nationals, which are reported monthly) – which saw across-the-board circulation falls.

STV has announced an increase in revenue by seven per cent and operating profit by eight per cent, in full-year financial results issued this morning.

Say the results, revenue increased between 2013 and 2014, to £120.4 million, while operating profit increased, over the same period, to £19.5 million.

A SCOTS media awards competition that seeks to “recognise high-quality, fair and accurate coverage of issues affecting refugees and people seeking asylum” has issued a call for entries.

Co-ordinated by Scottish Refugee Council, British Red Cross and the National Union of Journalists in Scotland, the Refugee Festival Scotland Media Awards are now in their 15th year.

The deadline for entries is April 10.

BEGINS an announcement from the Royal Statistical Society, about a journalism awards competition it runs: “Journalists who have used statistics to tell a story could be in the running for one of four awards from the Royal Statistical Society.

“The Society is encouraging entries for its 2015 ‘Statistical Excellence in Journalism’ awards, which recognises writers and broadcasters for their good – and accurate – use of numbers. Now in its ninth year, the awards have previously been scooped by reporters from the BBC, Guardian and Financial Times, amongst others.”
