Stargazer set to support charity fundraiser

THE Sunday Mail’s astrologer is to take part in a fundraising event for a charity set up by one of his predecessors.

Stargazer, Frank Pilkington, is set to present his specially-created one-man show to raise funds for the Darlinda Charity for Renal Research, founded by the late Rita Madhok, who, as Darlinda, wrote the astrology column for the Sunday Mail for 16 years until her death at the age of 55 in September, 1995.

The charity has already raised more than £700,000 for the renal unit at Glasgow’s Western Infirmary – both for research and for patient comfort.

Rita had a history of renal failure and set up the charity to mark her gratitude to the staff who had cared for her during her illnesses.

Her husband, Dr Rajan Madhok, was named last year as one of the Sunday Mail’s ‘Great Scots’, for his work in continuing the charity.

The event – at the Scotland Street School Museum on Glasgow’s southside – will be held on the tenth of next month, 7pm for 7.30pm.

Says fundraising committee chair, Laura McAlonan: “We’re all absolutely thrilled about Frank’s helping to support this worthwhile cause.

“He’s a great entertainer and we’re confident those attending will have a superb evening. Frank and Rita have both shared that special link with the Sunday Mail and have been responsible for keeping many thousands of readers informed about their astrological charts for several decades.

“It’s a lovely tribute to Rita that Frank continues to support the charity.”
