Bill Lothian Reaches 40th Anniversary Milestone at Scotsman Publications

One of Scotland's most-respected sports journalists is today celebrating 40 years' service with the one newspaper group, The Scotsman Publications.

It was on August 26 1970, Bill Lothian – who writes for the Edinburgh Evening News – began with the company, and colleagues are preparing a celebration lunch for next week, to mark the occasion.

Says Evening News editor, Tom Little: “I am sure much more will be said in eight days’ time but today I’d just like to recall when I started at the News first time around some 16 or 17 years ago. Bill was already an old hand and one of the most respected writers not just on this newspaper but across all publications in his field. But even so he was extremely approachable, even to a wet-behind-the-ears upstart from the East Lothian Courier, and he remains one of the nicest blokes you could meet.

“In the future, it will be rare indeed to see anyone marking 40 years of continuous full-time employment with this, or any, newspaper. That Bill does so today suggests not only that he started work here straight from the womb, but more importantly it is a testimony to his loyalty, his dedication and, most of all, his talent.”
