A LOBBY of the annual general meeting of The Scotsman’s publishers, Johnston Press, is to take place on Friday.
The lobby is being staged by the National Union of Journalists, with the AGM being held in Edinburgh, from 10.30am to 11.30am.
It coincides with strike action, scheduled for the same day, by NUJ members working for Johnston Press in Scarborough over the introduction of a new content management system which is understood to reduce the need for sub-editors. At the same time, the result will be revealed of a NUJ strike ballot at more than 20 NUJ chapels at Johnston Press titles across the north of England and Yorkshire.
The NUJ has a number of shares in Johnston Press which will allow representatives to get into the AGM.
Only last week, it was revealed that the proposed introduction of the Atex content management system at The Scotsman – plus sister titles, Scotland on Sunday and Edinburgh Evening News – could result in between ten and 12 production journalist posts being lost.
