A fledgling Scottish cancer charity established by golf’s current Ryder Cup captain – Scot, Colin Montgomerie – in memory of his mother who died of the disease, is set for a significant cash boost, thanks to an enterprising fund-raising charity auction run by the Press and Journal morning newspaper in Aberdeen.
The highest bidder – and a partner or friend – will win the opportunity to attend the Ryder Cup at Celtic Manor in Wales next month when Europe’s top players take on the cream of the USA’s professional golfers.
The Elizabeth Montgomerie Foundation is one of the official charities of the Ryder Cup, while the Press and Journal is a founding supporter of Monty’s Maggie’s Appeal in Aberdeen – which seeks to build a Maggie’s Centre in the Granite City to provide practical and emotional support for people with cancer.
The winner of the Press and Journal contest, and partner or friend, will attend the final day of the Ryder Cup on the third of next month and be right at the centre of the action as guests in captain Montgomerie’s private hospitality set-up.
The charity auction had a reserve price of £500 and the winner will be announced by the Aberdeen newspaper shortly.
