Harries named as new Scottish Sun editor

The deputy editor at the Scottish Daily Mail has been named the new editor of The Scottish Sun.

Andy Harries succeeds David Dinsmore, who has been promoted to the role of General Manager Scotland for News International, which publishes The Scottish Sun along with sister titles, the Scottish News of the World, The Times Scotland and the Sunday Times Scotland.

The appointment had been predicted by many as soon as the hunt to find a successor to Dinsmore was launched.

It had been thought News International would recruit from within, with Alan Muir, Iain King and Gordon Smart all receiving strong backing.

Harries has been at the Scottish Daily Mail for around a decade.

He was introduced to Sun staff this afternoon.

Said a former colleague – who asked to keep his name secret – on hearing that Harries was a contender: “Andy is an extremely talented journalist and a very witty man. He was made for the job.”
