Evening News Move Latest in Subscriptions Trend

An initiative launched yesterday by the Edinburgh Evening News allowing regular readers to potentially save more than £40 per year should they subscribe to the six-days-a-week title is simply the latest in a growing subscriptions trend by newspapers.

And among the leaders of the pack are the The Herald and Scotsman stables.

Currently, if you subscribe to both The Herald and Sunday Herald, the joint deal offers a saving of £50 a year, plus a free three-month Hi-Life dining card which offers two-for-one discounts at many restaurants. The current promotion, however, specifies that the dining card offer is restricted to the first 500 new subscribers.

Meantime, in Edinburgh, a joint subscription for The Scotsman and Scotland on Sunday offers a saving of £2.70p a week. And a subscription for just the Saturday Scotsman and Scotland on Sunday will save more than £55 a year.

The added most recent sweetener from the Edinburgh-based newspapers is a free 12-month subscription, worth up to £64, for a range of top-selling magazines (six months with a weekend subscription). The offer ends on the 19th of next month.
