Newspaper Editorship for Johnson

The sports production editor at The Scotsman has been appointed the new editor of the Berwick Advertiser and Berwickshire News.

Phil Johnson takes up his new post on Monday. His sports production duties at The Scotsman included sister title, Scotland on Sunday.

The 34 year-old started his career 12 years ago as sports editor of the Southern Reporter in Selkirk before joining The Scotsman, as a sub-editor, two years later.

He succeeds Stuart Laundy, who departed in September for the deputy editorship at the Oban Times.

The Berwick Advertiser and Berwickshire News are part of the Tweeddale Press Group, which is owned by Johnston Press (publishers of The Scotsman).

With Johnson's departure – on Saturday – The Scotsman/SoS sports production editor post is going to Edinburgh Evening News sports editor, Graham Lindsay.

In turn, his deputy, Ramsay Laing, is being promoted to Evening News sports editor.

And the Evening News deputy sports editor role has gone to Mark Atkinson, a news sub-editor on the paper.
