“When I started as a junior, wet-behind-the-ears sports sub on The Herald, Dougie was given the responsibility of showing me the ropes. He did so with humour and not a little patience. Gone far too young, he was genuinely one of the good guys and he’ll be sorely missed.” Stephen Penman, Head of Corporate Communications, North Lanarkshire Council
