'Old School' Journalism Plaudit for Clarke

Plaudits for BBC Scotland’s news reporter, Aileen Clarke, on her brand of “old school” journalism from a relatively unlikely source: Gavin Docherty, who is promoted by the Scottish Daily Express as 'Scotland’s No 1 showbusiness writer'.

In his full-page spread in today’s Express, Docherty points out: “Who needs cheap fiction when we’ve got the real thing in reporter Aileen Clarke’s compelling nightly dispatches from outside Glasgow’s High Court … for the trial of murder accused Malcolm Webster in Reporting Scotland (BBC1).

“This is old-school reporting out of the topmost drawer: a correspondent who can suds up the story merely by communicating, with pin-sharp clarity, the gruesome facts contained in that most basic of all journalist’s ‘props’, a spiral notebook, which she wields with authority.”
