Herald Group Launches Survey of Core Values

Staff at the Herald and Times Group – which includes The Herald, the Sunday Herald and the Evening Times newspapers – have been invited to contribute towards a survey of what ought to be the publisher's core values.

Following a memo from managing director, Tim Blott, the call has gone out to consider fundamental philosophical issues, such as integrity and courage.

But it is understood the exercise – not unusual among large organisations – has been met with a degree of scepticism among at least some hacks.

Says Paul Holleran, the NUJ's Scottish Organiser: “I am being told people are scratching their heads in puzzlement, given what's been going on in terms of job cuts these last couple of years.”

The memo reads: “The senior management team are currently looking at agreeing some core values for the Herald & Times Group and we would appreciate your help. These might include such things as integrity, courage, ambition and pride but would be communicated and measured internally as well as broadcast to the wider public.”

Responses require to be submitted by the end of the month.
