A new independently-owned free newspaper is to launch in Aberdeen this week.
CityLife, a full-colour tabloid focusing on lifestyle and entertainment features, will be available in and around the Granite City from Thursday.
The title – developed by print and publishing company, NER Media, which has also published The Buchaneer, a local free newspaper distributed in the Buchan area – will run 10,000 copies of its 32-page pilot edition.
A six-strong team is currenlty working on the freesheet, which will initially be available fortnightly with a view of moving to a weekly slot after two to three issues.
Executive editor, Paigham Mustafa, told allmediascotland: “We’ve had a really good reception from advertisers and potential readers.
“The pilot edition will contain all the diferent sections that we want – a ‘What’s On’ and Lifestyle section that we hope to increase the size of. We’d eventually like to do 40 pages.
“There will be some local news as well but most of it is covered by other Aberdeen newspapers. The angle for the market of CityLife, we see, is that there is currently nothing on lifestyle and entertainment so there will be a lot of that.
“If we get the same reception as we’ve had from advertisers and potential readers I think it will become a very succesful publication and a permanent feature of Aberdeen life.”
The launch comes three years following the closure, after 12 years, of another independently-owned free newspaper serving the Granite City: the Aberdeen Independent. It had a circulation of 66,000.
The publisher of the Press and Journal newspaper publishes its own, free newspaper for the city: Aberdeen Citizen.
