THE Glasgow evening newspaper, the Evening Times, is to go on sale from early morning.
The switch – which will see the first edition of the paper being delivered at the same time to newsstands as its daily sister title, The Herald (thus presumably saving on distribution costs) – means it will be put together overnight, making today the last day when editorial shifts begin at 6am.
From Monday, the first edition of the paper will reach some 330 more outlets, benefitting from daily newspaper distribution network. The first edition will be printed after The Herald and a second edition will be published for early afternoon, available in 75 more outlets than currently.
Editor, Tony Carlin, told allmediascotland.com: “This will not affect in any way the normal exclusive Glasgow and west of Scotland content which makes the title a unique publication in a congested and highly competitive marketplace. It also allows us to continue to act as the city’s champion and to live up to our proud claim that Nobody Knows Glasgow Better.
“With our presses starting at around 2.30am we are still well placed to publish breaking news stories in our first edition later than most of our key rivals.
“Our second edition will be published in the early afternoon allowing the Evening Times to continue to boast of coverage of Today’s News in Today’s Paper. Indeed, our second edition will now be available in more locations and to more readers than at present.
“We are confident that the Evening Times will continue to serve its loyal readership to its usual high standards and to further cement its place as a champion of Glasgow and the west of Scotland.”
Home deliveries will be, as currently, of the second edition.
It is understood that the Edinburgh Evening News experimented with ‘overnight production’ in November but, this time, decided against pursuing it.
