The Scottish Sun on Sunday launching next weekend

THE Scottish Sun is to go seven-days-a-week, starting next weekend.

The news – splashed across the front page of today’s edition of the newspaper – follows an announcement by owner, Rupert Murdoch, on Friday, that The Sun on Sunday was due “very soon”, albeit few industry-watchers will have bet as early as this coming Sunday.

Speculation that The Sun would have a Sunday edition began as soon as its sister title, the News of the World, was closed down – in July, amid allegations of phone-hacking.

Says The Scottish Sun today, on page seven: “Forty-three years ago when Rupert Murdoch first launched a new-look Sun, we promised that YOU, our readers, would be at the heart of all we do.

“Giving our readers what they want has remained our mantra – and that is why you have made us the most popular paper in the English language.

“Now we are answering your clamour for a Sunday edition of the nation’s favourite paper.

“You told us it could not come soon enough, and next weekend the historic new edition of The Sun will rise.”
