THE associate editor at The Scottish Sun, Alan Muir, has been named Employee of the Year at an in-house awards ceremony for staff working for the paper’s publishers in Scotland.
Already nicknamed the NIPAs (News International People’s Awards), the event was set up to recognise not just journalists but other members of News international’s Scottish operation, including print and commercial staff.
Some 180 people gathered at the awards – held at the weekend and compered by comic, Raymond Mearns, a former classified ads employee, and Miss Scotland, Jennifer Reoch. As reported on allmediascotland.com last month, the staging of the NIPAs means there will be no Scottish Sun presence at the upcoming Scottish Press Awards.
Said David Dinsmore, general magager of News International (Scotland) but currently acting managing editor of The Sun: “It was a fantastic evening, which gave News International staff from across the entire Scottish operation the chance to meet each other, many for the first time.
“But this was also an opportunity for staff to celebrate each other’s successes in what, by any standards, has been a trying year. We hope the NIPAs, will now become an annual event.”
