Ferguson makes returns to Life and Work Magazine

THE well-known writer Ron Ferguson has returned to the fold at the Church of Scotland’s monthly magazine, Life and Work, after an absence of 16 months.

He returns having, among things, penned a book about Orcadian poet, George Mackay Brown, ‘The Wound and the Gift’, published by Saint Andrew Press, and shortlisted for a major Saltire Society award.

He explains in this month’s edition of the Kirk magazine: “So why am I back with Life and Work, I hear you cry, with appreciation or anguish. Well, the book about GMB has now been published … that in itself doesn’t explain why my wizened features are back in your magazine, either raising or lowering your blood pressure.

“You can blame our esteemed editor, Lynne McNeil, who had tried hard to talk me out of my original decision to walk.

“Noting that I had finished the book, Lynne approached me again. Feeling reinvigorated after writing the book – and greatly touched by Life and Work readers who had written to me in such generous terms after my departure – I decided to accept the editor’s offer.”

Ferguson is a former Church of Scotland minister in Glasgow’s Easterhouse and at St Magnus Cathedral in Orkney, and also a former leader of the Iona Community.

In November two years ago, he was made an honorary Doctors of Letters by Glasgow Caledonian University.
