Brechin Advertiser editor steps down

THE editor of the Brechin Advertiser local newspaper has stepped down, after ten years in the post.

Andrew Ducat retires after 37 years in journalism, his career beginning as a junior reporter on the neighbouring Forfar Dispatch.

He is a former editor of the Dispatch and also the Kirriemuir Herald.

He is quoted in the paper, as saying: “Over almost four decades I have been part of an industry that’s moved from the typewriter to the computer, from black and white editions to full colour.”

In the paper, he recalls the changing ownerships of the paper, which is now owned by Johnston Press.

And he recalls too the “major blow”, following the sudden, untimely death last year of chief reporter, Steve Mitchell.
