Daily Record celebrates its colour printing first

THE Daily Record devotes its centre spread today to a celebration of its own history, when it became “the first newspaper in the world to use colour”, almost 80 years ago.

Writes Katrina Tweedie: “Until [1934], the public had only seen newspapers in black and white but, 40 years after the Daily Record was launched we gave the news a splash of colour.

“It was a ground-breaking achievement and we went on to lead the world in colour printing and photography.”

The paper plans, over the next two weeks, to publish photographs from its archives.
