My Big Break: Hamish Mackay, former deputy news editor, Press and Journal

HAMISH Mackay runs his own media consultancy firm from Aberdeen but is becoming more and more involved in community politics and charity work. Beginning as a ‘cub reporter’ on the John O’Groat Journal, he worked for the Press and Journal for 25 years.

Now semi-retired, he says he “remains an exceedingly ravenous devourer of print in all its splendid forms, and [is] gradually getting on top of the online revolution – albeit tentatively”.
